Judge William Henry Stanton, born July 28, 1843, New York City, New York; public schools education, Archbald, Pennsylvania;  Saint John's College, Montrose, Pennsylvania; studied law; admitted, bar, attorney, commenced law practice, Scranton, Pennsylvania, 1868; married, Anna Marie Allen, five children, William H., Jr.; Mary A., Victoria A., Lenore, Leroy Emmanuel Stanton; editor, Scranton Daily Times (now Times-Tribune) until 1872; prosecuting attorney, Scranton Mayor’s Court, 1872-1874; elected, Democrat, Pennsylvania State Senate, 1875-1876; elected, Democrat, United States House of Representatives, 1876-1877; not a candidate for election, 1877; elected, judge, Luzerne County Court of Common Pleas, 1877; resigned, 1879; left Scranton, 1883, moved Arkansas, moved Kansas City, Missouri, 1884, returned Scranton, Pennsylvania, resumed law practice; died, March 28, 1900 (aged 56), Scranton, Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania; interment, West Side Catholic Cemetery, Scranton, Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania.

Moved with his parents from New York City, to Carbondale, Pennsylvania, subsequently to Archbald, Pennsylvania.

Elected, Democrat, Pennsylvania State Senate, 20th district, Luzerne (Part) County, 1875-1876; committee assignments, Compare Bills, Corporations, Judiciary Local and New Counties and County Seats. 

Elected, Democrat, Judge, Luzerne County Court of Common Pleas, 1877; served at the organization of the courts of the newly created county of Lackawanna October 24, 1878; resigned, 1879.
