Andrew G. Miller (D18) Cumberland and York Counties 1869-1871

Early Life:

Andrew G. Miller, born June 7, 1811, Yellow Breeches Creek, Lower Allen Township, Cumberland County, Pennsylvania; son of Abraham and Elizabeth Boyer Miller; engaged, fuller, built a fulling mill, Conodaguinet Creek, West Pennsboro Township Cumberland County, Pennsylvania; moved, family to  West Hill, West Pennsboro Township, opening a general store, hotel, 1835; married, Eleanor Umberger Miller, 1835, children, William Edward Miller, Sarah Eleanor Miller Snyder, Henrietta Miller Bridges; engaged, blacksmith shop, Newville, Cumberland County, Pennsylvania; incurred an arm injury at the blacksmith shop, resulting in the limb’s amputation, sold blacksmith business interests; served as cashier, president, Heikes, Nevin and Company, which reorganized into, Farmers and Mechanics Bank of Shippensburg, 1856-1875; retired to farming; died, February 14, 1880, Shippensburg, Cumberland County, Pennsylvania; interment, Spring Hill Cemetery, Shippensburg, Cumberland County, Pennsylvania.  

Pennsylvania Politics:

Elected, Democrat, Pennsylvania State Senate, 18th district, Cumberland and York Counties 1869-1871; secured passage, first appropriations for Shippensburg State Normal School; defeated renomination.

Legacy:

Son, Captain William E. Miller, Pennsylvania State Senate, Adams and Cumberland Counties 1899-1902.
