Early Life: 

Sergeant David Stokes Lee, born August, 19, 1840, Lee homestead, Stroud Township, Monroe County, Pennsylvania; son of Daniel and Jerusha Lee; educated, common schools, Stroudsburg Academy;  1857-1862; Sergeant, Civil War, 1862-1863; teacher, principal, Stroudsburg Academy; attorney, Monroe County bar, 1867; married Martha S. Posten, 1867, children, Edward, William H., Harry B., Fred Wagner Lee, Nellie D. Lee Drake; Monroe County, District Attorney, 1872-1880; legal counsel, Monroe County Commissioners; elected, Democrat, Pennsylvania State Senate, 1899-1902; died July 27, 1908, Stroudsburg, Monroe County, Pennsylvania; interment Stroudsburg Cemetery, Stroudsburg, Monroe County, Pennsylvania.   

Early Career:

Enlisted, October 16, 1862, orderly Sergeant, Company H, 166th Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteers Infantry, serving Department of South Carolina, nine-month service, mustering out, August 17, 1863.

Teacher, Mauch Chunk (now Jim Thorpe) Carbon County, Principal of the Stroudsburg Academy, school, Stroudsburg Borough (now a private home on Thomas Street).

Pennsylvania Politics:

Elected, Democrat, Monroe County District Attorney, 1872-1880; served as legal counsel, Monroe County Commissioners. 

Elected, Democrat, Pennsylvania State Senate, 22nd District, Carbon, Monroe and Pike Counties, 1899-1902; committee assignments: Game Fisheries, Judiciary General, Military Affairs, Public Printing, Railroads, Street Passenger Railways.
