Isaac Hugus, born February 6, 1814, borough of Somerset, Somerset County, Pennsylvania; son of Michael and Elizabeth Ankeny Hugus; read law, office of Samuel Gaither, admitted practice of courts, Somerset County, 1840; appointed, Deputy General of the State, 1843-1848; elected, Democrat, Pennsylvania State Senate, 1849-1851; elected, chief burgess, Somerset Borough, several terms, 1852; gubernatorial appointment, Commissioner of Draft, Somerset County, 1862; died August 27, 1891 (aged 77), pneumonia, residence, Somerset, Somerset County, Pennsylvania; interment, Ankeny Square Burial Ground, Somerset, Somerset County, Pennsylvania.
