Andrew Armstrong Purman, Sr., born April 8, 1823, Short Creek, Ohio County, Virginia, (West Virginia); son of John James Purman II and Barbara Burns Purman; moved, with family, Greene County, Pennsylvania, 1833; Waynesburg College, Waynesburg, Greene County; read law, with Honorable Samuel Clenenger, of Waynesburg; attorney; admitted bar, 1849; school director, fifteen years, borough council; married, Mary Ann Russell, 1856, children, Thomas Purman, John Purman, Lyde Purman, James J.
