Ward Leader; commissioner, First Ward (1982-1989); elected as a Republican to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1989 term and was reelected to serve 13 more consecutive terms; elected, chair, Minority Appropriations Committee (2010); elected, chair, Majority Appropriations Committee (2010-2016); appointed, board , Pennsylvania Higher Educational Facilities Authority (1991-2002); appointed, board, State Public School Building Authority (1991-2002); appointed, board, Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency (2003-2016; chair, 2007-2016); not a candidate for reelection to the House (2016).
