CAWLEY, Joseph "Gaynor," a Representative from Lackawanna County; born in Scranton, Lackawanna County, Pa., June 19, 1941; graduated, Saint Patrick High School, 1960; attended, University of Scranton, 1964; department store manager (1964-1969); professional baseball player (3 years); superintendent of recreation (1974-1975), business administrator (1976-1977), director of public works (1978-1979), deputy mayor (1977-1980), director of community development (1980), city of Scranton; elected as a Democrat to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1981 term; reelected to serve 12 more consecutive terms; appointed, chair, Special House Committee on the Homeless (1984); appointed, chair, Select Committee to Study Business Activities of Nonprofits (1987-1988); appointed, Select Committee on Information Security (2006); not a candidate for reelection to the House (2006); died, March 12, 2021 in Scranton, Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania.
