Subject: | “Domestic Violence Awareness Month” in Pennsylvania (October 2018) |
I plan to introduce a resolution designating October 2018 as “Domestic Violence Awareness Month” in Pennsylvania. This resolution encourages all Pennsylvanians to learn more about how to recognize and prevent domestic violence and how to support victims and survivors. For over forty years, the Pennsylvania Coalition Against Domestic Violence’s 60 community-based domestic violence programs have been providing free and confidential services to nearly 90,000 victims and their children each year; providing shelter, legal assistance, counseling and children’s services while helping them find safety, obtain justice and rebuild their lives free of abuse. At the national level, data reports show that on average, 1 in 4 women and 1 in 7 men have experienced severe physical violence by an intimate partner. Over the course of a year, that equals more than 12 million women and men. Please join me in sponsoring this important resolution. |
