Subject: | Commemorating Israel's 70th anniversary |
Next week, we will offer a resolution commemorating the 70th anniversary of the birth of Israel. The Jewish people have endured a long history of invasion, oppression, dislocation, discrimination and genocide. In 1947, the United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution calling for the establishment of an independent Jewish state and directed inhabitants of the county to take actions facilitating this resolution. On May 14, 1948, the State of Israel was established as a sovereign and independent country and the first Jewish state in 2,000 years. From its humble beginnings Israel has emerged as a successful democratic state with a strong economy, a powerful military, and a commitment to peace among all people. Please join in commemorating the State of Israel on its 70th anniversary. |
