Subject: | Prevention of Sexual Harassment in the Workplace Task Force |
I will soon be introducing a resolution to establish a Task Force on the Prevention of Sexual Harassment. This task force would be charged with evaluating and reviewing Pennsylvania’s current laws and procedures relating to the reporting of sexual harassment. This legislation is part of a multi-bill package intended to address the all-too-common workplace harassment employees face in the Commonwealth and nationally. The #MeToo movement has provided victims the opportunity to bring their stories forward and educate the public on the pervasiveness of this issue. Now is the time to turn this momentum into action to foster safe, equitable, and accountable workplaces where jobs and promotions are not leveraged for sexual favors or where people are shamed for their background or identity. My resolution aims to prioritize the health and safety of Pennsylvania employees in the workplace. The task force would review inadequacies relating to policies that address sexual and discriminatory workplace harassment in both the private and public sectors. My hope is that this package of bills will restore confidence in the ability of the Commonwealth to protect the victims of workplace harassment. Please join me in co-sponsoring this important legislation. |
