Senate of Pennsylvania
Session of 2017 - 2018 Regular Session

MEMORANDUM

Posted: October 6, 2017 04:24 PM
From: Senator Patrick M. Browne
To: All Senate members
Subject: Make "Bump Stocks" Illegal in Pennsylvania

In the near future, I plan to introduce legislation that will make it illegal in Pennsylvania to import, purchase, sell, manufacture, transfer or possess what are commonly referred to as "bump stocks."

As you are aware, the tragic and unthinkable mass shooting in Las Vegas earlier this week was exacerbated by the use of these "bump stocks."

My legislation will amend the prohibited offensive weapons statute in Title 18 (PA Crimes Code) in two ways:
1 - Define "bump stocks" as any apparatus which accelerates the cyclic firing rate of a semi-automatic firearm.
2 - Makes it illegal to import, purchase, sell, manufacture, transfer or possess these "bump stock" apparatuses.

Please join me in co-sponsoring this important legislation to prohibit these unnecessary apparatus and protect the citizens of Pennsylvania and visitors to this great Commonwealth.

Introduced as SB969
