Subject: | Resolution Recognizing June 25th as “Eid Al-Fitr Day” in Pennsylvania |
In the near future, I will be introducing a resolution recognizing June 25th as “Eid Al-Fitr Day” in Pennsylvania. I invite you to join me as a co-sponsor. Eid Al- Fitr marks the end of Ramadan which is the month of fasting and prayer. As well as celebrating the completion of fasting with great feasts, many Muslims attend prayers, listen to a khutba (sermon) and give charity in the form of food. Muslims recognize two major religious observations each year, Ramadan and Hajj. Each observance relates to a corresponding holiday Eid Al-Fitr and Eid Al-Adha. The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania is estimated to be the home of approximately 300,000 Muslims. In the tradition of religious tolerance promoted by William Penn and instilled in the constitution of Pennsylvania, I urge you to join me in recognition of the Eid Al-Fitr holiday. |
