Session of 2017 - 2018 Regular Session

MEMORANDUM

Posted: May 4, 2017 02:19 PM
From: Senator Wayne Langerholc, Jr.
To: All Senate members
Subject: Tax Refunds to Certain Organizations

In the near future, I plan on introducing legislation that will continue Pennsylvania’s current provisions allowing an individual to donate all or a portion of their tax refund to certain organizations.

Currently, Pennsylvania has seven tax check-offs that allow individuals to donate a portion of their tax refund to certain organizations and causes during tax time (i.e. Red Cross, Diabetes Research Fund, etc.). Three of these check-offs are scheduled to sunset at the end of 2017:
  • Wild Resource Conservation Fund, expires 1/1/18;
  • Organ and Tissue Donation Awareness Trust Fund expires, 1/1/18; and
  • Military Family Relief Assistance Program, expires 1/1/18.

According to the Department of Revenue, from 2011-2015, the above funds have received donations from this check-off totaling $449,783.86, $110,803.86 and $664,857.22, respectively. This bill would remove these sunsets completely.

Please join me in co-sponsoring this important piece of legislation.
