MEMORANDUM

Posted: April 7, 2017 03:51 PM
From: Senator Mario M. Scavello
To: All Senate members
Subject: School Building Closing Procedure

In the near future, I plan to introduce legislation providing for a process by which a school entity that closes voluntarily or through a revocation process under the charter school law, would have to provide information to the school, the district and the parents on its intent to close.

Under current law, there are no procedures in place to guide a school entity as to the process of closing. The intent of this legislation is to provide guidance and to assist all school entities who plan to close a school building. This legislation is also a tool to help the department track and maintain data on schools that are closed and or up for sale.

Please join me in co-sponsoring this legislation. If you have any questions regarding this legislation, please contact Christine Zubeck in my office at 717-787-6123 or czubeck@pasen.gov. Thank you for your consideration.
