Senate of Pennsylvania
Session of 2017 - 2018 Regular Session

MEMORANDUM

Posted: January 24, 2017 12:10 PM
From: Senator Donald C. White and Sen. Gene Yaw, Sen. Elder A. Vogel, Jr.
To: All Senate members
Subject: Increasing Access to Consumer Fireworks

In the near future, we plan to reintroduce legislation that would further legalize the sale and use of consumer fireworks to Pennsylvanians, in Pennsylvania. Currently, consumer fireworks can be sold to out of state customers and Pennsylvania residents who obtain a permit from their local municipality. Our legislation would simply remove the permit requirement to give Pennsylvanians the same convenience currently offered to out of state customers.

Our legislation will also levy an excise tax on all consumer and novelty fireworks. These revenues will be directed to fund EMS providers and fire company programs.

The following members cosponsored this legislation last session: Baker, Bartolotta, Folmer, Wagner, Stefano, Scarnati, Brewster, Vulakovich, Alloway, Ward, Hughes and Wozniak.
