Subject: | Resolution Designating September 18-22, 2017 as "SepticSmart Week" |
Each year, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) designates a week in September as “SepticSmart Week” to provide information to consumers about the importance of properly using and maintaining septic systems in order to protect their health and public water resources. Approximately 40% of Pennsylvania residents use septic systems, which are frequently environmentally friendly means of household water waste disposal. These systems safely rely on beneficial bacteria to breakdown waste from home water usage and importantly enable many communities to avoid overtaxing municipal wastewater treatment facilities. Therefore, my resolution will support the efforts of the EPA and industry representatives to improve septic system education among homeowners by designating September 18-22, 2017, as “SepticSmart Week” in Pennsylvania. I hope you will join me in sponsoring this resolution. Should you have any questions, please feel free to contact my office at 787-7105. |
