Session of 2015 - 2016 Regular Session

MEMORANDUM

Posted: February 24, 2017 11:02 AM
From: Senator Judith L. Schwank
To: All Senate members
Subject: United Way Resolution

In the near future, I will be introducing a resolution recognizing the work of United Ways across the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. As you know, United Ways bring together leaders from all sectors of the community to work in support of common goals defined by a community’s needs. The work of United Way is guided by thousands of dedicated volunteers who serve on Boards of Directors and committees which provide accountability and oversight on behalf of donors. Because United Way is locally driven, each United Way is an autonomous organization with flexibility to address the most pressing needs in its own community. In Pennsylvania there are 57 local United Ways working to improve the community in the areas of health, education, and financial literacy. United Way is committed to providing vital programs such as 2-1-1 to help Pennsylvanians find resources they are looking for with one phone call or text, 24 hours per day, seven days per week. Across Pennsylvania, United Ways have made major contributions toward increasing access to high quality early childhood education programs and helping kids read at grade level by third grade while reducing the high school dropout rate.

I invite you to join me in sponsoring this resolution recognizing the great work of United Ways across Pennsylvania.
