Subject: | Delta Sigma Theta Day |
In the near future, I plan to introduce a resolution recognizing May 17, 2016 as “Delta Sigma Theta” day in the Commonwealth. In 1913, the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority was established in order to promote academic excellence and to provide assistance to local communities around the world. This Sorority is the largest African-American Greek-lettered organization to date. Today, this organization continues to promote these ideas through scholarship programs, supporting those with fewer opportunities, and educating the people on the importance of establishing positive public policy. This year, the sorority is celebrating its 103rd anniversary. Dr. Paulette C. Walker, the current President of Delta Sigma Theta, leads more than 300,000 college-educated women on a mission to advocate for education and solving problems in the communities where they are located. The organization has more than 1,000 different chapters across the globe. It is my hope that you will join me in recognizing the deeds and achievements of this outstanding Sorority. |
