MEMORANDUM

To: All Senate members
Subject: Resolution Supporting the Make-A-Wish Foundation

We are writing to invite you to cosponsor a simple resolution we will be introducing to express support for the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

As many of you know, the Make-A-Wish Foundation is a nonprofit organization that works to grant the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions.

Since 1980, the Make-A-Wish Foundation has enriched the lives of more than 254,000 children with life-threatening medical conditions. In 2014, Make-A-Wish granted 14,200 wishes, which is nearly one wish every 37 minutes.

The goal of the foundation is to create a memorable wish experience for both the child and their family that is not clouded by financial concerns.

To accomplish this, Make-A-Wish holds regular fundraisers, including an annual Mother’s Day truck convoy in Lancaster County.

Begun in 1990 as a wish for a young boy who requested to ride in an 18 wheeler and speak to his sister on a CB radio, the annual convoy has now grown to over 400 trucks giving rides to over 100 wish children. The event draws approximately 5,000 people that come to see the trucks, celebrate the lives of young people with medical challenges, attend an auction, play games and enjoy local food.

On Wednesday, April 13, we intend to offer this resolution as several wish families from Lancaster County visit the Senate.

Please join us in cosponsoring this resolution, which celebrates the contributions of an important and terrific nonprofit organization that betters our communities and our Commonwealth.
