Subject: | Resolution – Law Day |
In the near future, I will be introducing a resolution designating the May 1, 2016 as “Law Day” in Pennsylvania. Law Day was first proclaimed by President Dwight D. Eisenhower on May 1, 1958. It honors the rule of law as a fundamental right of citizens, providing the opportunity to live under a society of equity and justice for all. In honor of the 50th anniversary of perhaps the nation’s best-known U.S. Supreme Court case, the Law Day theme is “Miranda: More than Words.” This theme explores the procedural protections afforded to all of us by the U.S. Constitution, how these rights are safeguarded by the courts, and why the preservation of these principles is essential to our liberty. Please join me in designating May 1st as "Law Day" in Pennsylvania to celebrate the role of law in our society and to cultivate a deeper understanding of the legal profession. |
