|Subject:||Resolution encouraging participation in the Hunters Sharing the Harvest Program|
|Since 1991 the PA hunters Sharing the Harvest program has brought the hunting public together to serve their communities and has been providing venison to local food bank systems to benefit needy citizens throughout this Commonwealth.
Per their website (http://www.sharedeer.org/):
"Hunters Sharing The Harvest (HSH) is Pennsylvania’s charitable venison donation program for hunters who share their extra venison via a statewide network of participating butchers to Food Banks across Pennsylvania. HSH participating butchers, who are paid for their services through monetary donations, coordinate the meat deliveries and work with local food banks. The food banks redistribute the venison to more than 4,000 local food assistance provider organizations such as food pantries, missions, homeless shelters, Salvation Army facilities and churches, as well as needy families."
Several Pennsylvania agencies, such as the Department of Agriculture and Game Commission have and currently supported this program by offering information on their websites to hunters and others interested in participating.
I would ask you to join with me to encourage the many partners in HSH to continue providing information via internet websites and other means about donating big game and other lawfully taken wildlife via Hunters Sharing the Harvest to food banks, county and local government, municipalities, sportsman’s clubs and meat processors throughout this Commonwealth and other individuals, nonprofit agencies, charitable organizations and businesses requesting this information.
