Subject: | Memo #17 - Resolution recognizing National Apprentice Week in Pennsylvania |
In the near future, I plan to introduce a Senate resolution declaring November 2-8, 2015, as “National Apprentice Week” in Pennsylvania. U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics projections show that a significant portion of the anticipated workforce shortfall of nearly 3 million Americans in 2020 could be resolved by apprenticeships. Studies have shown that apprenticeships provide not only a good return on investment for workers, but also employers. The Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry’s Apprenticeship and Training Council promotes and approves apprenticeship programs to trade companies throughout the Commonwealth. The success of the program promotes jobs and improves the trade industry. As of early October 2015, there were 767 apprentice programs and 12,996 registered apprentices in Pennsylvania. |
