Senate of Pennsylvania
Session of 2015 - 2016 Regular Session

MEMORANDUM

Posted: September 16, 2015 10:54 AM
From: Senator Wayne D. Fontana
To: All Senate members
Subject: Co Sponsorship: Italian-American Heritage Month

In observance of Columbus Day, I plan to introduce a resolution recognizing the month of October 2015, as “Italian-American Heritage Month” in Pennsylvania.

An Italian, Christopher Columbus, embarked on what would end up being four trips across the Atlantic Ocean starting in 1492 where he accidently stumbled upon the Americans in his voyages. His journeys resulted in centuries of explorations on the continent.

Today we accredit Christopher Columbus with Italian immigration to the New World and Pennsylvania. Americans of Italian decent have become one of the Commonwealth’s most influential ethnic groups and are prominent in Pennsylvania for the arts, law, science, government, commerce, manufacturing and finance.
