Subject: | Update to the Breach of Personal Information Notification Act |
In the near future I plan on re-introducing legislation which updates the Breach of Personal Information Notification Act. This legislation will be similar to that of SB 114 from last session. Cyber Security is something we constantly read and hear about in the news. Both Government and the Private Sector are routinely dealing with ever evolving Cyber Security threats from both domestic and international hackers. My legislation will require that in the event of a breach involving Personally Identifiable Information the Agency will report this breach to the individual or individuals affected within 7 days. It also requires the Attorney General be made aware of the breach, and for Executive Branch Agencies to notify the Office of Administration within 3 days following the breach. The legislation will also require the Office of Administration keep a policy for the storage and transmission of Personal Identifiable Information Data. SB 114 was sponsored last session by: Pileggi, Vulakovich, Scarnati, Alloway, Baker, Boscola, Brewster, Browne, Brubaker, Erickson, Farnese, Ferlo, Folmer, Fontana, Gordner, Greenleaf, Hughes, Kasunic, Mensch, Rafferty, Robbins, Schwank, Tartaglione, Tomlinson, Vance, Ward, Washington, Waugh, Williams, Yaw, and Yudichak. Should you have any questions please contact Charlie O’Neill in my office at 717-787-6538. |
Introduced as SB1048
