|Subject:||Resolution – Fire Prevention Week 2015|
|In the near future, I will introduce a resolution designating October 4th-10th as “Fire Prevention Week 2015” in Pennsylvania. The theme is “Hear the beep where you sleep. Every bedroom needs a working smoke alarm!” This year’s Fire Prevention Week theme focuses on motivating people to install working smoke alarms near bedrooms.
According to the National Fire Protection Association, having a working smoke alarm in the home cuts the risk of dying in a fire in half. On average, three out of five home fire deaths resulted from fires in properties without working smoke alarms. It is recommended that smoke alarms should be installed inside every bedroom, outside each sleeping area, and on every level of the home, including the basement.
Fire Prevention Week occurs annually in October during the week in which October 9th falls, commemorating the Great Chicago fire of 1871. Each year, the National Fire Protection Association works in cooperation with partnering companies, organizations, and fire departments to promote Fire Prevention Week and its fire safety meetings throughout North America.
Please join me in supporting this resolution.
