Senate of Pennsylvania
Session of 2015 - 2016 Regular Session

MEMORANDUM

Posted: April 28, 2015 12:18 PM
From: Senator Christine M. Tartaglione
To: All Senate members
Subject: Sen. Tartaglione - Older Americans' Month Resolution

In the near future, I plan to introduce a resolution recognizing the month of May 2015 as Older Americans’ Month.

Since 1963, this nation has honored the legacies and ongoing contributions of older Americans during the month of May, and it has supported these individuals as they transition into their new phases of life. In Pennsylvania, during this monthly designation, we recognize the contributions made by older persons, and we pay tribute to the accomplishments of these individuals within our communities. This year, as we celebrate the theme “Get into the Act,” we emphasize the importance of older individuals assuming responsibility for their health, remaining involved in their communities and promoting the wellbeing of others.

Thanks to modern medicines and technologies, individuals are living longer and remaining active as they grow older; however, it is important for these persons to regulate their own health through self-monitoring and regular doctor visits. This will enable senior adults to pursue new challenges and adventures in an active, healthy and positive way. For all of their hard work and contributions, we owe such individuals our support, respect and gratitude. With this in mind, on behalf of older citizens throughout the state, I hope you will join me in co-sponsoring this resolution.
