Senate of Pennsylvania
Session of 2015 - 2016 Regular Session

MEMORANDUM

Posted: April 8, 2015 04:15 PM
From: Senator Richard L. Alloway, II
To: All Senate members
Subject: Spay/Neuter License Plate

In the near future, I will be introducing legislation that will create a special spay/neuter vehicle license plate in Pennsylvania.

Residents will be able to purchase their first license plate for a cost of $55.00. 100% of the proceeds will be allocated to grants to non-profit shelters and humane organizations for the purpose of offering veterinary clinics for spay/neuter programs.

Pennsylvania residents will be able to purchase this special license plate to benefit animals. These vanity license plates will be a win - win effort. They will provide people who want to financially help animals with a creative way to do so, while educating the public about the importance of spaying and neutering cats and dogs. These license plates will show how much and how many people care about animals. Residents can be confident that proceeds from the spay/neuter license plate sales are reaching the programs the plates are designed to help.

Spay and neuter is the best way to stop over population of cats and dogs and to cut the euthanasia rate.

Currently seventeen states including Connecticut, Georgia, Illinois, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Mississippi, Missouri, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, and Virginia, have programs that designate a large portion of license plate sales to fund spay/neuter programs.

Introduced as SB722
