Senate of Pennsylvania
Session of 2015 - 2016 Regular Session

MEMORANDUM

Posted: March 31, 2015 02:11 PM
From: Senator Richard L. Alloway, II
To: All Senate members
Subject: Adopt a Shelter Pet Week in PA

In the near future, I intend to offer a resolution recognizing the week of April 19 - 25, 2015, as "Adopt a Shelter Pet Week" in Pennsylvania.

In the United States, six to eight million homeless pets enter animal shelters each year with as many as four million being euthanized.

Pennsylvania and the United States also have enormous problems with animal overpopulation, a problem that worsens as the economy declines.

Shelter animals are usually spayed and neutered before being released to new owners, thus reducing the problem of pet over population and animal shelters are focused on animal placement and providing low-cost adoptions so that everyone can have the opportunity to bring a loving pet into his or her home.

By celebrating Adopt a Shelter Pet Week in Pennsylvania, we will encourage pet adoption at local animal shelter and raise awareness of the strain felt by local shelters because of the faltering economy and an overpopulation of animals.
