Subject: | Natural Gas Rates for Places of Worship in Philadelphia |
In the near future, I will introduce a bill allowing natural gas utilities in Philadelphia to provide places of worship with lower natural gas bills. Currently, places of worship pay for their natural gas utilities at commercial rates, which are higher than residential rates. Small churches are struggling to pay the high cost of natural gas bills during these cold months. These facilities often act as charities in the community, offering access to food, shelter and safety for the poor and homeless, particularly through the winter. I believe we should, in turn, ensure that burdens such as the high costs of heat do not prevent them from continuing to offer a place of refuge. My legislation will allow natural gas utilities in Philadelphia to offer a lower, residential rate on natural gas bills to places of worship in the city. Please join me in co-sponsoring this legislation. |
