Senate of Pennsylvania
Session of 2015 - 2016 Regular Session

MEMORANDUM

Posted: February 20, 2015 02:58 PM
From: Senator Robert M. Tomlinson
To: All Senate members
Subject: Keystone Exams

Beginning in the 2016-2017 school year, State Board of Education regulations will require Pennsylvania public school students pass Keystone Exams in Algebra I, Literature and Biology in order the graduate from high school.

While we certainly want student excellence and competency in these subjects, three tests should not be the determining factor in a student’s overall academic success. Please join me in cosponsoring legislation to allow schools to locally determine the role Keystone Exams will play in measuring student progress.

This legislation was co-sponsored last session by Senators Folmer, Dinniman, Teplitz, White and Alloway as Senate Bill 1450.

Introduced as SB665
