Subject: | Legislation to Provide Grants for Law Enforcement to Investigate Animal Fighting |
I am re-introducing legislation (SB 1154) to amend the State Gaming Law. The bill was part of the “Pet Protection Legislative Package” that was introduced last session. The bill provides funding for the investigation and enforcement of crimes that involve illegal gambling and animal fighting. The money, $250,000, is transferred annually to the Attorney General for grants to district attorneys to help them in this effort. This money comes from the $2 million that is currently transferred to the Gaming Control Board for local law enforcement grants. It is important to note that the Attorney General will be developing guidelines for applying and awarding the grants. Previous sponsors of the bill included: DINNIMAN, BLAKE, LEACH, WOZNIAK, SMITH AND WHITE |
Introduced as SB394
