MEMORANDUM

Posted: December 10, 2014 04:31 PM
From: Senator Rob Teplitz
To: All Senate members
Subject: Legislation - PACE Subscription Medication Supply Reform

In the near future, I plan on introducing legislation that will amend Act 91 of 1971, known as the State Lottery Law.

Currently, the PACE Program allows for a maximum 30-day supply on all medication refills. The 30-day supply limit is meant to keep costs down by reducing the potential for waste, fraud and abuse because senior citizens often change medications. My legislation addresses these concerns by allowing a 60-day supply of a medication only if specific criteria are met. These criteria include the total quantity of dosage units dispensed not exceeding the amount authorized by the prescriber, the pharmacist is exercising his or her professional judgment that the increased supply is appropriate, and the medication is not a psychotropic drug or controlled substance.

A 90-day supply is available via Medicare Part D. By increasing the supply limit of the PACE Program, my legislation eliminates the need for older Pennsylvanians to go through the process of enrolling in an additional program in order to obtain an increased supply of their prescription medication.

I ask you to join me in co-sponsoring this legislation.
