MEMORANDUM

Posted: December 1, 2014 12:03 PM
From: Senator Anthony H. Williams
To: All Senate members
Subject: Parent Accountability

In the near future, I will be reintroducing SB 50. This legislation will amend Titles 18 (Crimes and Offenses) and 42 (Judiciary & Judicial Procedure) to establish liability and accountability for parents and guardians who induce minors into unlawful behavior. Parents and guardians need to be held accountable under the law when they abandon their duty by encouraging the corruption of their children.

This bill will also institute a formal, voluntary diversionary training program that teaches parents and guardians how to play a positive role in their children’s lives. The intent of this bill is to encourage parents to take an active, positive role in the lives and upbringing of their children.

Previous co-sponsors of this legislation include Senators TARTAGLIONE, ERICKSON, RAFFERTY, BOSCOLA, GREENLEAF and WOZNIAK. If you have any questions, please contact my office at 717-787-5970. Thank you for your consideration.
