Subject: | Cable a la Carte Programming |
In the near future I will re-introduce legislation from last session that will allow consumers to obtain a la carte cable channels from their local cable company. I will amend the State Cable Act of 1995 (P.L. 264 of July 6, 1995) which is the Video Programming Municipal Tax Authorization Act. By amending this act, this bill will provide for consumer to pick and choose which cable channels they wish to purchase, without purchasing bundled channels they do not want. This bill will not upset the municipal agreements that are entered into between local government and cable companies. Through these agreements, local municipalities receive money in exchange for providing cable service. That will not change. This will simply allow the consumer to have more freedom to choose which channels they wish to have. If you wish to co-sponsor this legislation but have additional questions, please contact my Harrisburg office. |
