Subject: Amend Drug Free School Zone Law
 
I plan to re-introduce Senate Bill 256 of 2011, legislation that will amend the Drug Free School Zone law (18 Pa.C.S.A. Sec. 6317) to include public parks and trails. I originally introduced this legislation after a Phoenixville crime prevention organization reported on failed efforts to eliminate drug use and trafficking in a local urban park that provides recreational opportunities for underserved children in the community.

Our public parks and trails should provide a safe, wholesome environment for our residents, visitors and their families, and I believe that every effort should be made to deter illegal drug use within and in close proximity to these precious resources.
