Subject: | Repeal of Insurance Department Reporting Requirements (Previously SB 1591) |
I plan to reintroduce my Senate Bill 1591 from last Session to lift the requirement that medical malpractice insurers and self-insurers file annual reports with the Pennsylvania Insurance Department listing every medical malpractice claim and their resolution. This measure was previously cosponsored by: D. White, Stack, Pileggi, Rafferty, Erickson, Argall, Alloway, and Greenleaf, and passed the full Senate 47 – 2. While the requirement for these reports has apparently been in existence since the mid-1970’s, we have found no one who uses and/or makes references to these reports. This is why the Insurance Department proposed discontinuing the reports. However, legislation is needed to sanction such action. With all of the financial issues facing our Commonwealth, we need to ensure we are squeezing every penny from each tax dollar. My legislation will help to promote government efficiency. Thank you. |
