Session of 2013 - 2014 Regular Session

MEMORANDUM

Posted: November 19, 2015 02:35 PM
From: Senator James R. Brewster
To: All Senate members
Subject: First Responder Light Modification

I will soon be introducing legislation that will allow our first responders, such as Ambulance personnel, volunteer firefighters, certified volunteer search and rescue organization members and owners and handlers of dogs used in tracking humans to modify their personal vehicles and have multiple internal or external blue flashing lights.

Currently the law is antiquated and restrictive. It allows them to only have only one external light, and many of these first responders have been getting pulled over while en route to an emergency.

This bill would modify the statute to allow them to put flashing lights either inside or outside their vehicle and would not limit the number of lights that they are allowed to use.
