Subject: Juvenile Detention Centers and Alternative Programs Week in Pennsylvania (October 20-24)
 
I will be introducing a resolution declaring October 20-24, 2014 as Juvenile Detention Centers and Alternative Programs Week in Pennsylvania. This resolution will be substantively similar to a resolution Sen. Kim Ward introduced last year, SR 240.

Pennsylvania has 15 secure detention centers serving the Commonwealth. These facilities provide 726 beds statewide for approximately 15,000 admissions to juvenile detention each year. The resolution will recognize their ongoing protection of our communities and the care of youth in their custody.

SR 240 was sponsored by Senators Ward, Alloway, Browne, Brubaker, Costa, Erickson, Fontana, Greenleaf, Kasunic, Pileggi, Rafferty, Schwank, Smith, Solobay, Stack, Vulakovich, Washington, and White.
