Senate of Pennsylvania
Session of 2013 - 2014 Regular Session

MEMORANDUM

Posted: September 11, 2014 03:42 PM
From: Senator Timothy J. Solobay
To: All Senate members
Subject: Highway worker and first responder safety.

I plan to introduce legislation that would amend Title 75 (Transportation) as a means to further protect highway workers and first responders. Drivers are consistently ignoring these vulnerable workers. It is the intention of this legislation to get people to slow down so that lives are not needlessly put in jeopardy.

The legislation would call for a fine of $10,000.00 to a driver who causes death of or serious bodily injury to the aforementioned personnel. The driver would also have to surrender their license for a period of one year. This is in addition to any other penalties a driver may face.

Introduced as SB1484
