Senate of Pennsylvania
Session of 2013 - 2014 Regular Session

MEMORANDUM

Posted: September 11, 2014 03:41 PM
From: Senator Timothy J. Solobay
To: All Senate members
Subject: Protection of volunteer first responders' employment.

In the very near future, I will be introducing a bill that protects volunteers from fire companies, ambulance service, or rescue squads from being penalized by their employers for missing time at work when responding to a call. While this is, in fact, prohibited by law, there are no real-world consequences to employers that do not follow the law.
My legislation would require the employer to pay the employee an amount equal to three times the lost wages, after termination, and also pay for all attorney fees as paid by the employee to recover said lost wages and benefits.

Introduced as SB1486
