Subject: | Resolution Honoring September as "Emergency Preparedness Month" |
Please join me in co-sponsoring a resolution designating September 2014 as “Emergency Preparedness Month” in Pennsylvania. This commemoration mirrors the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s national celebration. This resolution encourages Americans to take simple steps to prepare for emergencies in their homes, businesses and communities. Pennsylvania’s Emergency Management Agency (PEMA) and other Commonwealth agencies support this initiative and are continuing to wage their ReadyPA campaign to raise awareness among all citizens about the need to prepare for weather-related disasters and other emergencies. Preparation for these weather-related disasters includes the maintenance of an emergency kit that includes nonperishable food, water, medications, and a battery-operated radio; the practice of family fire drills; and education about evacuation procedures and shelter-in-place directives. Pennsylvania has a history of flooding, tornadoes, snowstorms and other natural and manmade disasters, this resolution is an important piece to a large scale public awareness campaign aimed at protecting lives and property. Thank you for considering this resolution. If you have any questions please call my office at 717-787-3110. |
