Subject: | Resolution Designating June 2014 as "National Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder Awareness Month in Pennsylvania" |
In the near future, I plan to introduce a resolution designating June 2014 as "National Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder Awareness Month in Pennsylvania". PTSD is an anxiety disorder that can develop after a terrifying event in which there is the potential for, or actual occurrence of grave physical harm. This disorder affects nearly 7.7 million Americans and about 20% of veterans returning from Iraq and Afghanistan. It is important to raise awareness of PTSD in order to treat it at the onset of common symptoms such as upsetting memories, anger, irritability and depression. If PTSD goes untreated it significantly increases the risk of suicide, drug and alcohol related disorders and deaths. Not only does it affect the person that has PTSD it also affects their families. Please join me in recognizing June 2014 as “National Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder Awareness Month” in Pennsylvania. If you have any questions please call Matt Azeles in my office at 717-787-3110. |
