Senate of Pennsylvania
Session of 2013 - 2014 Regular Session

MEMORANDUM

Posted: April 22, 2014 09:01 AM
From: Senator Lisa Baker
To: All Senate members
Subject: “Emergency Medical Services Week” and “EMS for Children Day” Resolutions

Please join me in co-sponsoring a resolution designating the week of May 18 through May 24, 2014 as “Emergency Medical Services Week” in Pennsylvania, and a related resolution designating May 21, 2014 as “Emergency Medical Services for Children Day.”

The theme of this year’s week is “EMS: Dedicated. For Life.”

Both resolutions honor the network of emergency medical responders, from ambulance attendants and paramedics to firefighters, police officers, and emergency room doctors and nurses who rush to render aid around-the-clock, in the face of sudden, life-threatening illness and injury. These first responders often provide life-saving care at great risk to themselves, responding to the scene of brutal crimes, raging fires, and devastating traffic accidents.

For sick and injured patients, access to high-quality emergency care significantly improves their recovery process and chances of survival. As skilled professionals in the front lines of emergency care, volunteer and career members of our EMS network engage in thousands of hours of specialized training and continuing education to enhance their lifesaving abilities. Those who render pediatric care must receive additional, specialized training to meet the unique needs of infants and small children.

Our EMS workers greatly deserve this annual recognition. Thank you for your consideration of both resolutions.
