Subject: | Resolution Recognizing the 50th Anniversary of the Opportunities Industrialization Centers (OIC) |
Please join me introducing a resolution recognizing the 50th Anniversary of the Opportunities Industrialization Centers (OIC) and designating Tuesday, April 29, 2014 as OIC Day in Pennsylvania. Reverend Dr. Leon H. Sullivan started the very first OIC training center in 1964 in an abandoned jailhouse in North Philadelphia in order to address of needs of the community. The success of the program led to the establishment of over 40 affiliate programs throughout the United States. The objective of OIC is to train and retrain millions of men and women with untapped talents and undiscovered skills, who are unemployed and underemployed. OIC’s philosophy of “self help” and its system of developing the “whole person” are key to the success of its initiatives. In fact, since its establishment, OIC has trained over 2 million people nationwide. This year marks the 50th anniversary since the opening of its first center. In honor of the efforts that the centers have made and continue to make not only in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania but throughout the United Sates, I ask that you will join me in sponsoring this resolution. |
