Subject: | Memo #34 -- Bike to Work Day in Pennsylvania Resolution |
In the near future, I plan to introduce a Senate resolution marking May 16, 2014, as Bike to Work Day in Pennsylvania. Biking is part of a healthy lifestyle that benefits the environment and community. It can slow the onset of chronic disease and reduce obesity. Bicycle commuting is an effective means to improving air quality, reducing traffic congestion and noise, and conserving energy. It benefits both employees and employers through better employee health and fitness and reduction in commuting, parking and health care costs. A number of Bike to Work events will be held throughout the Commonwealth on May 16, including one at the Commonwealth Keystone Office Building in Harrisburg. |
