Subject: | Hepatitis Awareness Month-May 2014 |
Please join me in introducing a resolution designating May as “Hepatitis Awareness Month” in Pennsylvania. As you know, Hepatitis is a disease impacting the liver that can progress to a chronic level depending on the specific type of hepatitis. According to the CDC, there are millions of individuals living with viral hepatitis who are unaware they are infected. In fact, the CDC has reported that there is a Hepatitis C epidemic within the Unites States and individuals born between 1945 and 1965 are more likely to be infected. As such, May 19th has been designated as “Hepatitis Testing Day” within the United States. In keeping with the national theme, “Know More Hepatitis” during the month of May, we can encourage all Pennsylvanians to "Know More" by raising awareness about all aspects of this disease including testing and treatment. I hope you will join me in sponsoring this important resolution. |
