Subject: | Resolution – Adoption Awareness Month |
In the near future, I plan on again introducing a resolution designating the month of November 2014 as “Adoption Awareness Month” in Pennsylvania. Every child deserves a loving, nurturing permanent home, where they feel cared for, safe, and supported. We all know that family is the foundation of any society, but unfortunately, every year thousands of children enter the foster care system. Nationwide, there are about 104,000 children in foster care waiting to be adopted. While more than half of these children will return to their parents, the remainder will stay in the system. Each year more than 20,000 children age out of the system without being adopted. In 2012, there were 1,924 children in Pennsylvania waiting to be adopted. I ask that you please join me in sponsoring this resolution and in recognizing the hard work of both public and private adoption agencies and their commitment to the needs of children throughout the commonwealth. |
