Subject: | Veterans' Preference in Public Schools |
In the near future, I plan to introduce legislation requiring each public school to develop a policy to ensure the proper application of the Veterans’ Preference Act and post the policy on its publicly accessible Internet website. Further, the bill provides for the Department of Education, in consultation with the Department of Military and Veterans’ Affairs, to develop a model policy which public schools may utilize to comply with the requirement. Finally, the legislation requires a public school to provide individuals who apply for employment a copy of its policy. At present, the Veterans’ Preference Act applies to public schools. However, in many cases, the schools’ veterans’ preference policies vary or are often unclear to those who are applying for employment. If you have any questions regarding this legislation, please feel free to contact my office. |
Introduced as SB1269
