Subject: | Cervical Cancer Month Resolution |
January is being recognized across the nation as "Cervical Cancer Awareness" month, to increase public understanding and awareness of the disease that afflicts more than 900,000 American women every year, and claims the lives of thousands. Once a leading cause of death for women, today it has a very high cure rate when detected early enough. The Human Papiloma Virus (HPV), a leading cause of the disease, is carried by an estimated 20 million American women and can be prevented by vaccination, while the cancer and pre-cancerous conditions can be detected by regular physical examinations with Pap smears. Very shortly, I will be introducing a resolution recognizing January as "Cervical Cancer Awareness Month" in Pennsylvania. I hope you will join me in co-sponsoring it.
