Subject: | Resolution to Honor Gold Star Mothers |
We invite you to co-sponsor a resolution designating September 29, 2013 as “Gold Star Mother’s Day” in Pennsylvania. More than 70 years ago, President Franklin D. Roosevelt took action to formally recognize Gold Star Mothers for their strength and sacrifices after they lost a son or daughter in service to our nation. Congress issued a joint resolution on June 23, 1936 establishing the last Sunday in September as Gold Star Mother’s Day and requested the issuance of a presidential proclamation each year in solemn tribute to these grieving mothers and their inspiring patriotism. This year, the poignant American Gold Star Mother’s Day Service will be held on September 29, 2013 in Arlington National Ceremony. With this resolution, we extend our deepest reverence, sorrow and gratitude to our Commonwealth’s Gold Star Mothers, as they continue their mournful journey, struggle to overcome a mother’s greatest heartache, and honor their lost children and their heroic legacy. |
